BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky is a documentary about the South Korean girl group BLACKPINK, following the four members from their early days through their rise to global success. Directed by Caroline Suh, the film looks at the years of training and the obstacles the group faced on the way to becoming one of the most popular acts in K-pop, and it includes footage of their 2019 performance at the Coachella music festival. The members appear as themselves, alongside the producer TEDDY.
The film was released in October 2020 and runs 79 minutes. It was produced by RadicalMedia and YG Entertainment, with Cara Mones as producer. It is one of two documentary features directed by Caroline Suh, following her earlier film about a Brooklyn high school.
Audience response has been positive: the film holds an 8.2 rating on TMDB from a modest number of votes and a 7.3 on IMDb from a much larger pool, suggesting broad approval among those who watched it. A critics' rating of 7 out of 10 from 17 reviews places critical reception roughly in line with, though slightly below, the audience scores. The gap between the two audience figures reflects the different sizes of the voting groups rather than a real disagreement.
