The film is based on the story “The Colour Out of Space” by H.P. Lovecraft.
According to Wil Wheaton, he and his younger sister Amy Wheaton were treated terribly on set: the 13-year-old actor did not want to agree to the role, but his parents, who were promised a substantial fee, a trip to Italy, and a role for Amy by the producers, pressured him. The child actors worked 12 hours a day without breaks, director David Keith used drugs, and instead of makeup and special effects, everything was real: Wil's character, without the actor's knowledge, was pushed into real cow manure in one scene, and the cuts on Amy's body and face after the chicken attack were also not artificial – makeup artists applied them with a scalpel. Since then, the actor has hated everything related to 'The Curse'.
