Short description
Nathan Hayes is a religious man trying to hold onto his farm and keep his family in line. A real estate developer is trying to buy most of the farm property in the area, including Mr. Hayes family farm, in the hope that the Tennesse Valley Authority will choose the town for the site of a new dam and recreational area. The night of a terrible storm, an unidentified, glowing object crashes on the Hayes farm and with it comes a horrible curse for the Hayes family and the members of the community.
What's left behind the scenes
- The film is based on the story “The Colour Out of Space” by H.P. Lovecraft.
- According to Wil Wheaton, he and his younger sister Amy Wheaton were treated terribly on set: the 13-year-old actor did not want to agree to the role, but his parents, who were promised a substantial fee, a trip to Italy, and a role for Amy by the producers, pressured him. The child actors worked 12 hours a day without breaks, director David Keith used drugs, and instead of makeup and special effects, everything was real: Wil's character, without the actor's knowledge, was pushed into real cow manure in one scene, and the cuts on Amy's body and face after the chicken attack were also not artificial – makeup artists applied them with a scalpel. Since then, the actor has hated everything related to 'The Curse'.
