Short description
After fourteen years of marriage, Richard and Maria Forst face a crisis that leads to a request for divorce. While Richard pursues a relationship with a younger woman, Maria spends an evening out with friends and meets a younger man. The story follows the couple and their acquaintances as they struggle with alienation and the search for passion and love.

What's left behind the scenes
- While working on the series "The Bob Hope Show" (1963-1967), John Cassavetes (1929-1989) noticed Steven Spielberg (who was constantly hanging around sets) nearby. Cassavetes approached him, struck up a conversation, and during the conversation asked him what he wanted to be. Upon hearing the answer "Director," Cassavetes gave him the director's chair for the day. Cassavetes later invited Spielberg to work with him on the film "Faces" (1968), so Spielberg spent two weeks as an assistant producer (though his name was not mentioned in the credits).
- The initial version of the film was 6 hours long, but it is now lost and exists only as a screenplay.
