Roller Boogie

Roller Boogie is a 1979 American drama set in Beverly Hills, where wealthy teenager Terry Barkley meets Bobby James, a skilled roller skater, at a local rink. Their romance grows out of skating lessons, but the pair and their fellow skaters face a threat when a businessman tries to force the rink to close and take over the land it stands on. Bobby, Terry and the other regulars organise themselves against him while preparing for a roller disco contest.

Mark L. Lester directed the film from a screenplay by Barry Schneider, with Bruce Cohn Curtis producing. It came fourth in Lester's directing career, arriving between Stunts and Class of 1984. Linda Blair plays Terry, Jim Bray plays Bobby, and Beverly Garland, Roger Perry, James Van Patten and Kimberly Beck appear in supporting roles. Roughly 77 cast members and 60 crew members are credited.

Released in December 1979, the film took about 13 million dollars worldwide, a modest return. Its reputation among viewers is not strong: it holds 4.7 out of 10 on IMDb from around 2,200 votes and 5.6 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller base of 46 votes. The wide gap in vote numbers means the IMDb figure reflects a far larger and steadier body of opinion.
