Captive
Short description
Captive is a horror thriller about a teenage runaway who is held prisoner by a delusional man. To find a way to escape her captivity, she pretends to be the man's daughter.
The film was written and directed by Savvas Christou, who also served as a producer alongside Melissa Gutierrez. The movie features William Kircher as Evan and Tori Kostic as Lily, with supporting performances by Jolene Andersen, Meghan Hanako, Jairus Carey, and Chris Barry. Produced in the United States by Vertical Entertainment, High Octane Pictures, and Katherine's Lullaby LLC, the movie has a runtime of 89 minutes.
Since its release in October 2020, the film has received a mixed response from viewers. It holds a rating of 5.4/10 on IMDb based on 1,900 votes, while on TMDB it has a slightly higher score of 6.4/10 from 48 votes.
What's left behind the scenes
- During the filming of one scene, the power went out for 4 hours, and to stay on schedule, the entire scene in the living room had to be filmed using lighting from battery-powered screens.
- The original script stipulated that Lily hit Evan (played by William Kircher) with a vase. The blow was supposed to land on the upper back, where the actor had protective pads under his clothes, but in the very first take, Victoria Kostik accidentally hit her partner on the head.
- Lili's teddy bear is a toy that the actress playing her, Victoria Kostik, actually played with as a child. The bear was named Mo after the director and screenwriter Savvas Christou's cat.
- The house where the filming took place was surrounded by other buildings, so special angles and perspectives had to be found to make it look like the house was lost in the forest.
- The scenes in the basement were actually filmed in an attached garage on the first floor.
- The film was shot in the town of Wrightwood, California, and filming took only 18 days. For three weeks, the film crew and actors lived together in Wrightwood.
