At the insistence of director Josh Trank, actors Dane DeHaan, Michael B. Jordan, and Alex Russell lived together in one house for 15 days to get to know each other better.
Due to financial considerations, the film was shot in Cape Town, South Africa, and American cars had to be brought in specifically for filming, as South Africa has left-hand traffic.
Originally, it was planned that Andrew would tear his father apart after the Spider-Man, but the filmmakers feared a more restrictive rating.
One of the police officers shoots Matt in the unnamed finger of his right hand. In subsequent shots, when he is lying on the ground, the finger is visible and intact.
