TINA

TINA is a documentary about the life and career of singer Tina Turner, tracing how she became one of the first Black women to reach a mainstream international audience. The film follows her rise to fame, the personal and professional struggles she faced, and her unlikely return as a global phenomenon in the 1980s. It draws on interviews and archival material to present her own account of her life, including the years of abuse she endured during her marriage to Ike Turner and her decision to leave, as well as the public image of strength she projected to fans while privately still dealing with her past.

The film is directed by T.J. Martin and Daniel Lindsay, who also wrote the screenplay, and was produced by Simon Chinn, Jonathan Chinn and Diane Becker. It features Tina Turner appearing as herself alongside Carl Arrington, Le'June Fletcher and Oprah Winfrey, with archive footage of Ike Turner and Diana Ross. It is a British and American production from Altitude Film Entertainment, Media Finance Capital, Lightbox Entertainment and HBO Documentary Films, running 118 minutes.

Released in August 2021, the documentary drew strong audience approval: on IMDb it holds 7.9 out of 10 from around 6,700 votes, and on TMDB 7.7 out of 10 from roughly 83 votes.
