What's left behind the scenes
- According to director and screenwriter Jerzy Skolimowski, filming with a donkey is completely different from working with actors, because it doesn't understand language, and you constantly have to pet it and whisper sweet nothings in its ear. The animal's behavior was completely unpredictable: it could perform perfectly and calmly in a scene next to a roaring waterfall, but then become agitated and act strangely at the sight of an ordinary wire on the floor. Sometimes it was easier to simply change the scene than to persuade the animal to do what the script required.
