Short description
EO follows a grey donkey with melancholy eyes as he moves through a world that keeps changing hands around him. Named for the sound of a donkey's bray, he begins in a Polish circus and is soon set adrift across Europe, passing among good and bad people alike. A countess, a young Italian priest, and a rowdy football team are among those he encounters on a journey that carries him through joy and pain, with fortune and disaster trading places without warning. What holds steady is his innocence, which he never surrenders.
The film is directed by Jerzy Skolimowski, who wrote the screenplay with Ewa Piaskowska; both also produced. It came twelve years after his previous feature, Essential Killing. The cast includes Sandra Drzymalska, Isabelle Huppert, Lorenzo Zurzolo, Mateusz Kościukiewicz, Tomasz Organek, and Lolita Chammah, with 24 credited cast members and 59 credited crew. It was made as a co-production between the United Kingdom, Italy, and Poland, runs 88 minutes, and belongs to the adventure and drama genres.
Released in 2022, EO took in roughly 3 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.7/10 from about 17,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.5/10 from 445 votes. Critics rated it considerably higher, 8.1/10 from 160 reviews, so it found more favour with reviewers than with the broader audience.

- According to director and screenwriter Jerzy Skolimowski, filming with a donkey is completely different from working with actors, because it doesn't understand language, and you constantly have to pet it and whisper sweet nothings in its ear. The animal's behavior was completely unpredictable: it could perform perfectly and calmly in a scene next to a roaring waterfall, but then become agitated and act strangely at the sight of an ordinary wire on the floor. Sometimes it was easier to simply change the scene than to persuade the animal to do what the script required.
