What's left behind the scenes
- The artwork created by Michelle Williams’ character is actually the work of artist Cynthia Laity from Portland, whose work director and screenwriter Kelly Reichardt has followed for a long time. Furthermore, Laity is very close friends with Jonathan Raymond, with whom Reichardt co-wrote the screenplay. She actually wrote the screenplay with Laity in mind, but when she called the artist, she found out that Laity was planning to retire. Laity coached Williams before filming, and, by participating in the film, decided not to retire. By the end of filming, she had created so much new artwork that her studio was completely full.
