Settlers

Set on a terraformed Mars in the year 2078, Settlers follows Remmy, a girl born on the planet to parents who left Earth behind. The family lives an isolated life on a farm at the edge of a colony, shielded from the hardships of their new world. Their relative peace ends when armed strangers arrive in the hills beyond the farm, forcing Remmy to confront the reality her parents tried to keep from her. The story unfolds in three parts, tracing her struggle to survive in an unforgiving landscape.

Wyatt Rockefeller wrote and directed the film, his first feature as director. Sofia Boutella plays Ilsa, with Jonny Lee Miller as Reza and Ismael Cruz Córdova as Jerry. Brooklynn Prince and Nell Tiger Free portray Remmy at younger and older ages. The production was a collaboration between British and South African companies, and the credited crew numbered 174.

Released in July 2021, Settlers runs 104 minutes and mixes drama, science fiction and thriller elements. On IMDb it holds a rating of 4.8 from roughly 6,900 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5 out of 10 from 193 votes. A critics' rating of 5.9 from 59 reviews places it slightly above the audience scores.
