Dumb Money
Short description
Dumb Money tells the story of Keith Gill, a Massachusetts financial analyst who posts videos online under the name Roaring Kitty. He puts his savings into shares of GameStop, a video game retailer that Wall Street investors have bet heavily against. When his posts attract a following, small investors across the country begin buying the same stock, turning a personal bet into a mass movement that pushes the share price sharply upward. The hedge funds on the other side of those bets, including one run by Gabe Plotkin, lose heavily and push back, leaving both camps changed.
The film is directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo. It follows Gillespie's I, Tonya and Cruella and precedes Supergirl in his filmography. Paul Dano plays Gill, with Shailene Woodley as his wife Caroline, Pete Davidson as his brother Kevin, America Ferrera as a nurse who joins the buying, and Seth Rogen as Plotkin. Aaron Ryder, Gillespie and Teddy Schwarzman produce. Around 95 cast members and 246 crew are credited.
Released in September 2023, the film had a budget of about 30 million dollars and took roughly 21 million worldwide, less than its cost. On IMDb it holds 6.8 from about 62,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.7 from roughly 860 votes. A critics' rating of 6.8 from 235 reviews places it close to the audience scores.

- Robinhood partners and owners Vlad Tenev (Sebastian Stan) and Baiju Bhatt (Rushi Kota) drive two identical Tesla car models both in real life and on screen.
- Gabe Plotkin (Seth Rogen), the head of a hedge fund, acquired two enormous adjacent mansions on the oceanfront in Miami during the pandemic and then demolished one of the buildings to build a tennis court in its place.
- The film's director, Craig Gillespie, was involved in all the events unfolding in the film: his son invested in GameStop stock and even made money on it. He tried to dissuade his father from making hasty decisions with the stock, but ultimately Gillespie failed and lost his money.
- The main character's brother, Keith Gill, – Kevin (Pete Davidson) – ran a mile and a half naked during heavy rain and a thunderstorm on a bet, both in the film and in real life.
- Steve Cohen (Vincent D’Onofrio), the head of the hedge fund SAC, had a large pig as a pet in his mansion for 10 years. At some point, it became too cramped for her in the house, and she was given to a farm. The filmmakers couldn't ignore this fact, so the pig also appeared on screen.
