The Outfit is a crime drama set in 1956 Chicago, where Leonard Burling, an English tailor who once made suits on London's Savile Row, runs a small shop in a tough neighbourhood after a personal tragedy drove him from England. His customers are mainly members of the Boyle gangster family, for whom he cuts fine clothing, and he also acts as a discreet keeper of their secrets and of packages left at the shop. When one night two armed men come to his door and ask him a favour, Leonard and his assistant Mable Shaun are drawn into the criminal affairs of the Boyle organisation and the rival Irish mob in ways they could not have foreseen.
The film marks Graham Moore's second turn in the director's chair, following The Imitation Game, and he wrote the screenplay with Johnathan McClain. Mark Rylance leads as Leonard, with Zoey Deutch as Mable, Johnny Flynn as Francis, Dylan O'Brien as Richie Boyle, Simon Russell Beale as Roy Boyle and Nikki Amuka-Bird as Violet LaFontaine.
Made on a budget of about 5 million US dollars, the film took roughly 4 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.2 from over 59,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7.1 from around 1,400 votes. A critics' rating of 7.4 from 173 reviews places it slightly above both audience scores.
