What's Love Got to Do with It?

Zoe, a documentary filmmaker in London, has spent years navigating dating apps without finding a lasting relationship, a situation her mother Cath comments on frequently. Her childhood friend and neighbour Kazim, a successful surgeon, takes a different path: he agrees to an arranged marriage with a woman from Pakistan chosen by his parents, a decision that surprises Zoe. She decides to film his journey from London to Lahore for the wedding, turning his search for a partner into her next project. As she documents the preparations and the meeting between Kazim and his bride-to-be Maymouna, Zoe begins to reconsider her own assumptions about how love and marriage might work.

The film is directed by Shekhar Kapur, made in 2023 after Elizabeth, The Four Feathers, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, New York, I Love You and Venice 70: Future Reloaded. It was written by Jemima Khan and produced by Nicky Kentish Barnes, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner. Lily James plays Zoe, Shazad Latif plays Kazim, and Emma Thompson plays Cath; Shabana Azmi, Sajal Ali and Oliver Chris also appear among a credited cast of thirty.
