During filming in Montreal, two local punks with mohawks were hired for one of the scenes. They agreed to film for a small amount of money, which they were paid before shooting. Both had to be let go after someone noticed they were using drugs on set and planning to take Mario Van Peebles hostage.
The scene where Connor trains with a sword in the desert had to be reshot after sand got into the camera mechanism and damaged the film.
