Incognito from St.Petersburg

This comedy is based on the play Revizor by Nikolai Gogol. Set in a small town within the Russian Empire, the plot follows local officials who are anxious about the arrival of a government inspector from the capital. When a mysterious young man arrives and stays at a local hotel, the mayor becomes convinced that this stranger is the inspector in disguise.

Produced by Mosfilm in the Soviet Union, the film was directed by Leonid Gaidai, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Vladlen Bakhnov. This project followed his 1973 film Ivan Vasilyevich Changes His Profession and preceded his 1980 work For the Matches. The movie features a cast including Sergey Migitsko, Anatoliy Papanov, Nonna Mordyukova, Valeriy Nosik, Vyacheslav Nevinnyy, and Anatoliy Kuznetsov.
