The Requin

A married couple, Jaelyn and Kyle, travel to a coastal villa in Vietnam hoping to repair their relationship after a family tragedy. When a tropical storm strikes, the villa is torn away and the two are left adrift at sea on its remains. With no supplies and no sign of rescue, they must endure the elements, and their situation grows worse when sharks begin to circle them.

The Requin is a survival horror film directed and written by Le Van Kiet, the Vietnamese-born filmmaker behind Furie and The Princess. It is the third of the five features he has directed to date, and it was released in January 2022, the same year as The Princess and The Ancestral. Alicia Silverstone leads the cast as Jaelyn, with James Tupper as Kyle, alongside Deirdre O'Connell, Danny Chung, Jennifer Mudge and Kha Mai.

Made for a budget of about 9 million US dollars by Saban Films, Film Bridge International and Paper Street Pictures, the film runs 89 minutes. Its reception was poor: critics gave it 3.6 out of 10 across 17 reviews, while audiences rated it 2.6 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 7,500 votes and 4.8 out of 10 on TMDB from about 385 votes.
