Short description

Robert and Nina Tracey resolve to live separate lives when their eight-year marriage dissolves into disagreements and divorce. But their separate attempts to get back out on the dating scene have a funny way of bringing them together.

What's left behind the scenes

The film's title mirrors that of a column by Walter Winchell (1897-1972), which was very popular in the 1950s. Whenever two celebrities divorced, Winchell invariably published a column with this heading. (Winchell was an American gossip columnist and radio commentator. Originally a vaudeville actor, Winchell began his newspaper career as a Broadway reporter, critic, and tabloid columnist.)
Representatives from Columbia Pictures approached George Axelrod (1922-2003) with an offer to produce a film version of his popular play 'The Seven Year Itch'; however, problems arose with the film rights because the play was still running on Broadway. Axelrod then suggested they film 'Phi,' an earlier version of the same play on a similar theme.
