Bird Box Barcelona

Set in Barcelona after an unseen force wipes out most of the world's population, Bird Box Barcelona follows Sebastián as he tries to stay alive in the emptied streets of the city. He joins forces with other survivors in the hope of getting out of Barcelona, but a new and more dangerous threat emerges alongside the original one. The film belongs to the same fictional universe as Bird Box and moves the story to Spain.

Àlex Pastor and David Pastor wrote the screenplay together and co-directed the film, the fourth feature in their shared filmography after Carriers (2009), The Last Days (2013) and The Occupant (2020). Mario Casas plays Sebastián, with Georgina Campbell as Claire, Diego Calva as Octavio, Naila Schuberth as Sofia, Alejandra Howard as Anna and Patrick Criado as Rafa. It was produced by Chris Morgan, Dylan Clark and Adrián Guerra, with a budget of about 20 million US dollars.

Bird Box Barcelona was released on 14 July 2023 and runs 112 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.3/10 from roughly 29,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.9/10 from around 877 votes, a small but clearly more favourable sample. A critics' rating of 5.7/10 from 79 reviews places critical opinion between the two audience scores, closer to the TMDB figure than to the larger IMDb sample.
