Clark Davis, a young man accused of molesting a child, is taken to the Manhattan House of Detention, a New York City jail commonly known as the Tombs. He is placed in a cell block where word of the charge against him spreads among the other inmates, and his time inside becomes increasingly harsh. The film follows the pressure he faces from the men around him, including Juan, Ice, El Raheem, Tony and Paco.
Released in September 1977, Short Eyes was directed by Robert M. Young, whose earlier feature J.T. had come in 1971; he went on to direct Extremities in 1986 and Caught in 1996. The screenplay was written by Miguel Piñero, and the cast is led by Bruce Davison as Clark Davis, with 26 credited performers in all.
On TMDB the film holds a rating of 6.6 out of 10 from 39 votes, while a film critics' rating stands at 6.8 out of 10 from 12 reviews, a slightly warmer response from reviewers than from the wider audience. Made in the United States, it runs 100 minutes and belongs to the crime and drama genres.
