In London, a Frenchman named Bernard meets a young woman called Jane at a nightclub and is drawn to her. She is caught up in the death of her father, a man she believes was being blackmailed over a photograph, and when Bernard finds the blackmailer dead with Jane beside the body, he trusts her account and the two go on the run. The police treat him as a suspect, and the dead man's associates pursue them as well. Bernard tries to track down Jane's brother in the hope that he can explain what happened, but as more bodies appear, the truth behind the case becomes harder to face.
Tinto Brass directed the film, which followed his 1966 debut Yankee and was released in 1967. The screenplay was written by Francesca Longo, Brass and Pierre Lévy-Corti, with Luigi Carpentieri and Ermanno Donati producing for an Italian-French co-production. Jean-Louis Trintignant plays Bernard, Ewa Aulin plays Jane, and Roberto Bisacco, Vira Silenti and Enzo Consoli appear in supporting roles.
The film runs 107 minutes. Its ratings sit in the middle range on both IMDb and TMDB, where it holds a 5.5 from roughly a thousand votes and a 5.3 from a few dozen respectively, suggesting a modest reception among viewers who have sought it out.
