Mirage

David Stillwell is an accountant working in a New York office building when a power failure plunges the building into darkness. On his way out he sees a man fall to his death from an upper floor, and he realizes he has no memory of the past two years. He hires a private detective, Ted Caselle, to help him piece together what happened, and turns as well to a woman from his past, Shela. Their inquiries put Stillwell in the path of people who would rather he never recovered his memory.

The film is a mystery thriller directed by Edward Dmytryk, made from a screenplay by Peter Stone and produced by Harry Keller for Universal Pictures. It is the fifteenth of the eighteen features Dmytryk directed, arriving between Warlock (1959) and Alvarez Kelly (1966). Gregory Peck stars as Stillwell, with Diane Baker, Walter Matthau, Robert H. Harris, Kevin McCarthy and Leif Erickson among the credited cast of twenty-five. Running just under two hours, it was released in October 1965.
