Crimes of the Future

In a near-future world where the human body has begun producing new organs, performance artist Saul Tenser and his partner Caprice turn these changes into public spectacle, surgically removing his growths in front of live audiences. Their work draws the attention of a National Organ Registry investigator who tracks them closely, and of a shadowy group that wants to use Saul's fame for its own ends. Alongside this, Saul and Caprice encounter Lang Dotrice, whose own situation pushes them toward a reckoning with what humanity is becoming. The film is a drama with horror, science-fiction and thriller elements, set in a society adapting to synthetic surroundings.

David Cronenberg directed and wrote the screenplay, and the film is the twenty-first of the twenty-two features he has directed in chronological order, arriving after Maps to the Stars and before The Shrouds. It was produced by Robert Lantos, Steve Solomos and Panos Papahadzis, with a credited crew of one hundred. Viggo Mortensen plays Saul Tenser, Léa Seydoux plays Caprice, Kristen Stewart plays the investigator Timlin, and Scott Speedman, Welket Bungué and Don McKellar appear as Lang Dotrice, Cope and Wippet.

Released in 2022, the film runs 107 minutes and was made for a budget of about 27 million US dollars, against a worldwide box office of roughly 5 million. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.8 from around 47,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6 from about 1,300. A critics' rating of 6.8 from 286 reviews places it above both audience scores.
