What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is based on Isaac Marion's novel "Warm Bodies" (2010).
  • The story is partially based on Shakespeare's tragedy "Romeo and Juliet," which can be guessed from the characters' names. "R" stands for "Romeo," "Julia" for "Juliet," "Perry" for "Paris," "M" for "Mercutio," and "Nora" for Juliet's "nurse" (the Nora character in the film is a nurse).
  • Initially, Nora was supposed to be African American and half Ethiopian, but they decided to cast a white actress (Analeigh Tipton) instead.
  • In preparation for filming, the actors and extras involved in the film attended a "zombie boot camp" (similar to army basic training), where they learned how to walk and move like the living dead.
  • The actors playing zombies did not blink. This proved difficult for some, particularly Nicholas Holt, who was involved in several rather long scenes. The zombies started blinking again later, when the plot required their humanity to return.
  • The story is partially based on Shakespeare's tragedy "Romeo and Juliet", which can be guessed from the characters' names. "R" stands for "Romeo", "Julia" for "Juliet", "Perry" for "Paris", "M" for "Mercutio", and "Nora" for Juliet's "Nurse" (the Nora character in the film is a nurse).
