Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe

In 1998, a judge with an unusual idea sentences Beavis and Butt-Head to space camp. Their fixation on a docking simulator leads them aboard a Space Shuttle mission, which goes wrong in predictable fashion and sends the pair through a black hole. They emerge in the present day, 24 years later, where they attempt to pursue women, encounter smartphones, and attract the attention of government agents and other pursuers. The film is set in motion by the gap between the two leads and the world they land in, and by their continued failure to understand either.

The film is directed by John Rice, with Albert Calleros, and comes after a long stretch of Beavis and Butt-Head television and film work; it is the first of two films directed by Rice listed here, followed by The Angry Birds Movie 3. Mike Judge voices both title characters, as well as Van Driessen, and the cast includes Andrea Savage, Gary Cole, Nat Faxon, Chi McBride, and Chris Diamantopoulos. It is an American animated science fiction comedy produced by 3 Arts Entertainment, MTV Entertainment Studios, Titmouse, and Judgemental Films, running 86 minutes.

Audience response was positive: on IMDb it holds 7 out of 10 from around 15,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.9 out of 10 from a much smaller voter pool. A critics' rating of 7.3 out of 10 from 63 reviews places professional reaction in line with, or slightly above, the audience scores.
