Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile

The Primm family has just moved to New York City, and young Josh is having a hard time settling in at his new school and making friends. That changes when he finds a crocodile named Lyle living in the attic of the family's new home. Lyle sings, enjoys baths and caviar, and the two quickly become close. Their arrangement is threatened by the family's hostile neighbor, Mr. Grumps, who wants the animal removed from the building. To protect Lyle, the Primms join forces with Hector P. Valenti, the performer who owns the crocodile, in an effort to show that a family can take an unexpected shape.

The film is a family musical comedy directed by Josh Gordon and Will Speck, who also produced it and share a long filmmaking partnership. It is the fifth of six features they have directed together, arriving between Office Christmas Party and Long Distance. William Davies wrote the screenplay, and the cast includes Winslow Fegley as Josh, Javier Bardem as Hector, Constance Wu and Scoot McNairy as Josh's parents, Brett Gelman as Mr. Grumps, and Shawn Mendes as the voice of Lyle. It is based on the children's books by Bernard Waber.

Made for about 50 million dollars, the film took in roughly 111 million dollars worldwide, a return that outweighs its production cost. On IMDb it holds a 6.1 rating from around 18,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7 out of 698 votes.
