A scientist named Cal Meacham receives a shipment of unusual electronic components along with assembly instructions. Curiosity leads him to build a device that puts him in contact with a man calling himself Exeter, who invites him to join a private research project. Meacham travels to the remote facility and meets other scientists, including Ruth Adams, but the work they are asked to do is not what it appears to be, and the people running the project have come from somewhere other than Earth.
Joseph M. Newman directed the film, which was released by Universal Pictures in June 1955 and runs 85 minutes. Jack Arnold also directed on the production, placing it between Tarantula and The Incredible Shrinking Man in his filmography, while for Newman it followed Red Skies of Montana. Franklin Coen and George Callahan wrote the screenplay, William Alland produced, and Rex Reason, Faith Domergue and Jeff Morrow lead the cast. Worldwide box office came to about 2 million dollars.
On IMDb it holds a 5.8 out of 10 from 15 critics' reviews, while on TMDB it rates 6 out of 10 from 240 votes, so the two measures sit close together.
