The Consequences

Fabiola is a woman still coming to terms with her husband's death in a diving accident. Unable to recover, she devises an unconventional form of therapy for herself: she travels with her father and her teenage daughter to a family house on a small volcanic island. Living together, each of them guards their own privacy and keeps their own secrets, and the atmosphere of concealment feeds Fabiola's growing paranoia. She has no proof and no certainty, only an intuition that things are not as they appear, and she begins to watch those closest to her while wrestling with how far she should intrude on their lives.

This Dutch, Belgian, Spanish and Netherlands Antilles co-production is a drama and thriller running 96 minutes, written by Claudia Pinto Emperador with Eduardo Sánchez Rugeles and directed by Pinto Emperador. It was her first feature, followed in chronological order by While You're Still You in 2024 and Morir no siempre sale bien in 2026.

The film was released on 17 September 2021. Its reception from viewers has been modest: on IMDb it holds 5.3 out of 10 from 168 votes, and on TMDB 5.1 out of 10 from 10 votes, so both audience samples place it below the midpoint.
