Kristen Stewart’s first on-screen appearance (she was not credited in the titles). Her mother, Jules Mann-Stewart, worked on the screenplay for this television film.
During the auditions, Chez Starbuck (who played the main character, Cody Griffin) had to demonstrate his own swimming skills.
Chez Starbuck was cast in the lead role despite having absolutely no acting experience, and a coach was assigned to him for the duration of filming.
During the filming of the final scene, in which Cody, transformed into a merman, jumps out of the water, Chez Starbuck held onto a rope, and was pulled out of the water. The filming took place in a pool on the studio lot, and three scuba divers were in the water with Starbuck.
