• Kristen Stewart’s first on-screen appearance (she was not credited in the titles). Her mother, Jules Mann-Stewart, worked on the screenplay for this television film.
• During the auditions, Chez Starbuck (who played the main character, Cody Griffin) had to demonstrate his own swimming skills.
• Chez Starbuck was cast in the lead role despite having absolutely no acting experience, and a coach was assigned to him for the duration of filming.
• During the filming of the final scene, in which Cody, transformed into a merman, jumps out of the water, Chez Starbuck held onto a rope, and was pulled out of the water. The filming took place in a pool on the studio lot, and three scuba divers were in the water with Starbuck.
