The Angry Silence

Tom Curtis is a factory worker and family man who refuses to join a wildcat strike called by his colleagues. His decision sets him against the men he works with and the union men who organised the walkout, and the pressure follows him home, where his wife Anna cannot understand why he holds to a position that puts them both at risk. What begins as a matter of conscience becomes a test of endurance as the workplace turns against him.

Guy Green directed the film, the first in the chronological list of his directing credits that also includes A Patch of Blue, The Magus and Once Is Not Enough. Richard Attenborough plays Tom and also produced the film with Bryan Forbes; the screenplay is credited to Forbes, Michael Craig and Richard Gregson. Pier Angeli, Michael Craig, Bernard Lee, Alfred Burke and Geoffrey Keen are among the cast, which runs to 47 credited performers, and Beaver Films produced it in the United Kingdom.

Released in March 1960, the drama runs 95 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.2 from around 1,800 votes, and on TMDB it also stands at 7.2, from 35 votes. A critics' rating of 7 out of 10 from five reviews places it close to the audience scores.
