Marlowe

Marlowe is a crime mystery set in late-1930s Los Angeles and Bay City. Private detective Philip Marlowe is struggling with few cases and little money when Clare Cavendish, a wealthy heiress, hires him to find her former lover, Nico Peterson, who has vanished. What begins as a missing-person search pulls Marlowe into the world of the Corbata Club, the Hollywood film industry and one of the city's most powerful families, and brings him up against former police colleagues as he works the case.

Neil Jordan directed and co-wrote the screenplay with William Monahan. It is the fifteenth film he has directed, following Greta (2019). Liam Neeson plays Marlowe, with Diane Kruger as Clare Cavendish, Jessica Lange as Dorothy Quincannon, Danny Huston as Floyd Hanson, Alan Cumming as Lou Hendricks and Ian Hart as Joe Green among a credited cast of thirty-four. The production was an international one, involving Ireland, Spain, the United States and France.

Made for about 20 million dollars, the film took roughly 6 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.4 from around 15,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.7 from some 448 votes, indicating modest audience approval. A critics' rating of 4.9 from 110 reviews places it below those audience scores.
