Red One

Red One is an action adventure comedy in which Santa Claus, known by the codename Red One, is abducted from the North Pole shortly before Christmas. Callum Drift, who heads security at the North Pole, is forced to work alongside Jack O'Malley, a notorious bounty hunter, on a mission that spans the globe in an attempt to rescue Santa and keep the holiday on track. Dwayne Johnson plays Callum Drift and Chris Evans plays Jack O'Malley, with Lucy Liu, J.K. Simmons, Bonnie Hunt and Kristofer Hivju among the supporting cast. Jake Kasdan directed from a screenplay by Chris Morgan.

The film belongs to a late stretch of Kasdan's career that followed a run of studio comedies and two Jumanji sequels, and it precedes his next Jumanji instalment. It was produced by Seven Bucks Productions, Amazon MGM Studios, The Detective Agency and Chris Morgan Productions, with Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia and Johnson serving as producers, and it carries a large effects-driven premise centred on Christmas mythology. Its reported budget of 250 million dollars makes it one of the more expensive productions of its year, and the worldwide box office return of 186 million dollars fell well short of that figure.

Audience responses were moderate. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.2 from roughly 158,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7 out of 10 from a much smaller pool of about 3,000 votes. A film critics' rating of 4.5 out of 10 from 186 reviews is noticeably lower than either audience score, indicating a clearer divide between professional and viewer reactions.
