Argylle

Elly Conway is a reclusive author whose best-selling spy novels follow the secret agent Argylle and his efforts to expose a global criminal syndicate. Her quiet routine, built around her computer and her cat Alfie, is interrupted when the plots she invents start to match the covert operations of a real espionage organization. A spy named Aidan, who is allergic to cats, pulls her into the field, and the two set off across the world with Alfie in tow, pursued by killers while the boundary between Elly's fiction and her own life becomes harder to locate.

Matthew Vaughn directed the film, his eighth feature, following Layer Cake, Stardust, Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class, Kingsman: The Secret Service, Kingsman: The Golden Circle and The King's Man. Jason Fuchs wrote the screenplay and produced alongside Vaughn and Adam Bohling. Bryce Dallas Howard plays Elly, Sam Rockwell plays Aidan, and Henry Cavill appears as the fictional Argylle, with Bryan Cranston, Catherine O'Hara and Sofia Boutella in supporting roles.

Released in early 2024, the film carries a budget of 200 million dollars and returned 96 million dollars worldwide. Ratings place it in middling territory: 5.6 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 99,000 votes and 6 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller base of 1,837 votes, while a critics' rating of 4.9 out of 10 from 306 reviews sits below the audience scores.
