Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms

Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms adapts an ancient Chinese novel to the screen. In a realm ruled by the Shang dynasty, princes are sent to the royal court as pledges of their families' loyalty. When a rebellion is put down in one province, the younger prince Yin Shou awakens a sealed fox demon. She takes possession of the dead rebel lord's daughter and encourages the prince's worst impulses. The emperor and his elder son die, Yin Shou takes power, and a curse falls on the mortal world. To prevent chaos, the gods of Kunlun mountain decide to send humanity a powerful artifact, the List of Immortals, and Jiang Ziya volunteers to carry it, accompanied by Nezha and Erlang.

Wuershan directed and co-wrote the film with Ran Ping and Ran Jianan. It followed his Painted Skin: The Resurrection and Mojin: The Lost Legend, and precedes The Traveller and Creation of the Gods II: Demon Force. Kris Phillips plays King Zhou, with Li Xuejian as Ji Chang, Huang Bo as Jiang Ziya, Yu Shi as Ji Fa, NaranNarana Erdyneeva as Su Daji and Chen Muchi as Yin Jiao. The production employed a credited cast of 75 and a credited crew of 45.

Made for about 85 million US dollars, the film took roughly 369 million US dollars worldwide, a strong return on its budget and enough to establish the trilogy as a major commercial undertaking. On TMDB it holds a rating of 7.1 out of 10 from 503 votes, indicating a generally favorable audience response rather than unanimous praise. The film runs 148 minutes and falls into the action, fantasy and war genres.
