Fire with Fire is a 1986 romantic drama set in Oregon, where Joe Fisk, a young offender, is serving time in a reformatory for juvenile delinquents. Nearby stands a strict Catholic school for girls, where Lisa Taylor has been placed by her absent parents. The two teenagers come from opposite worlds, but a chance encounter draws them together, and they begin meeting in secret despite the rules that keep the institutions apart. When their relationship is discovered, pressure comes from the reformatory authorities, the school, their families and the law, and the pair eventually run away rather than give each other up.
The film was directed by Duncan Gibbins, working from a screenplay by Bill Phillips, Warren Skaaren and Paul Boorstin, and produced by Gary Nardino for Paramount. Craig Sheffer and Virginia Madsen lead the cast as Joe and Lisa, with Jon Polito, J.J. Cohen, Kate Reid and Jean Smart in supporting roles. It runs 103 minutes.
Released in May 1986, the film took in about 5 million dollars worldwide, a modest return. On IMDb it holds a 6.4 rating from roughly 2,100 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.2 from around 61 votes, so the two audiences are broadly in agreement about it.
