Untold: Malice at the Palace

Untold: Malice at the Palace is a documentary about one of the most notorious episodes in modern American sports: the 2004 brawl that broke out during an NBA game in Michigan between Indiana Pacers players and Detroit Pistons fans. The film brings together key figures from that night, including players and people in the stands, to recount how a confrontation in the closing moments of the game escalated into a wider fight involving spectators, and to examine the fallout that followed for those involved and for the league.

Floyd Russ directed the film, which runs 69 minutes and was produced by Talin P. Middleton. It is part of the Untold documentary series and was made with the participation of NBA Entertainment, Propagate Content, Stardust Frames and The Players' Tribune. Among the credited cast of twenty are Jermaine O'Neal, Stephen Jackson, Metta Sandiford-Artest and Reggie Miller, all appearing as themselves representing the Indiana Pacers, along with team president Donnie Walsh and Pistons fan Buddy Frantz. Their firsthand accounts form the core of the film.

Audience response has been solid. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.5 from more than 9,600 votes, and on TMDB it sits at 7.3 from a much smaller base of 145 votes. The wide gap in vote counts reflects the larger reach of the first platform, while the scores themselves indicate that viewers who sought out the documentary generally found it worthwhile.
