Emily the Criminal

Emily, burdened by student debt and shut out of steady work because of minor criminal offenses, takes a dubious job buying goods with stolen credit cards. The cards come from Youcef, a charismatic middleman who draws her into the scheme. The ready cash and the risk pull her further into Los Angeles's criminal underworld, and the two devise a way to expand the operation. What begins as a way to pay off what she owes turns increasingly dangerous.

John Patton Ford wrote and directed the film, his first feature, followed by How to Make a Killing in 2026. Aubrey Plaza stars as Emily and also produced, alongside Tyler Davidson and Drew Sykes. Theo Rossi plays Youcef, with Megalyn Echikunwoke, Gina Gershon, Jonathan Avigdori and Bernardo Badillo in supporting roles. The production company Evil Hag Productions is Plaza's own.

Made for about 2 million dollars, the film grossed roughly the same amount worldwide. On IMDb it holds a 6.7 rating from around 67,000 votes, while on TMDB it has a 6.6 from roughly 1,000 votes, indicating a modest but consistent audience response. A critics' rating of 7.6 from 208 reviews places it noticeably higher with reviewers than with general viewers.
