You People

You People is a romantic comedy about Ezra and Amira, a Los Angeles couple from different cultural backgrounds who fall in love and decide to take the next step toward marriage. That decision brings their two families together for the first time, and the meeting exposes a tangle of clashing expectations, cultural differences and generational divides. Ezra's parents, Shelley and Arnold, welcome the match with enthusiasm, while Amira's mother Fatima is more reserved and her father Akbar makes clear he had imagined a different partner for his daughter. The film follows the couple as they try to hold their relationship together while their families pull in opposite directions.

The film was directed by Kenya Barris, who wrote the screenplay with Jonah Hill; both also produced, alongside Kevin Misher. It was Barris's first feature as director, followed by Jerry West: The Logo in 2026. The cast includes Hill as Ezra, Lauren London as Amira, Eddie Murphy as Akbar, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Shelley, Sam Jay as Mo and Nia Long as Fatima, among 55 credited cast members and a crew of 46. Released in January 2023, it runs 117 minutes.

Reception was mixed across the board. On IMDb the rating stands at 5.5 out of 10 from around 67,000 votes, and on TMDB it is 5.6 out of 10 from roughly 815 votes. A film critics' rating of 5 out of 10, based on 131 reviews, places professional assessments close to the audience scores, with neither group rating the film strongly.
