In a future version of South Park, Stan, Kyle and Cartman have grown apart, and Kenny is dead. Kenny, remembered as a brilliant scientist, left behind a time machine and a request that his old friends finish what he started: going back to prevent the pandemic that reshaped their lives. Stan and Kyle commit to the trip, while a comfortable, prosperous Cartman is unwilling to give up his family and return to childhood. Reaching the past proves harder than expected once they encounter Victor Chaos.
Trey Parker directed and wrote the film, voicing most of the characters alongside Matt Stone; April Stewart, Kimberly Brooks, Mona Marshall and Delilah Kujala round out the cast. It followed Parker's earlier features Orgazmo, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut and Team America: World Police, and arrived in 2021, when the series of South Park television films was underway; a companion special, South Park: Post COVID, also carries a 2021 date in the same list of his directing credits. Adrien Beard, Vernon Chatman and Bruce Howell produced.
The hour-long special was released in December 2021. On IMDb it holds 7.5 out of 10 from roughly 9,300 votes, and on TMDB 7.4 out of 10 from several hundred. The two audiences land in much the same place, suggesting a broadly satisfied response rather than a sharply divided one.
