Gone in the Night

Kath and her boyfriend Max arrive at a secluded cabin among towering redwoods, only to find a younger couple already staying there. The rental appears to have been booked twice, so the four strangers agree to share the place until morning. When Max vanishes together with the other woman, Kath sets out to understand what happened. What begins as a search for an explanation of an abrupt breakup leads her toward something considerably stranger than she expects. The film is a mystery thriller set in an isolated forest, built around a woman piecing together the disappearance of her partner.

Eli Horowitz directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Matthew Derby, working with producers J.D. Lifshitz, Raphael Margules and Shaun S. Sanghani. Winona Ryder plays Kath, with John Gallagher Jr. as Max, Dermot Mulroney as Ryan Barlowe, Brianne Tju as Greta, Owen Teague as Al and Alain Uy as Ramon Lau. The production is a Canadian and American co-production from Post Film, BoulderLight Pictures and mm2 Asia, running 90 minutes.

Released in July 2022, the film drew modest audience scores: 4.9 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 7,700 votes, and 5.5 out of 10 on TMDB from about 159 votes. A critics' rating of 5.4 out of 10 from 62 reviews places critical and audience responses close together, with neither group rating it strongly.
