Ciao Alberto is a short animated film set in the world of Luca, following Alberto Scorfano as he settles into life in the seaside town of Portorosso while his closest friend Luca is away at school. Alberto works alongside Massimo, a large, tattooed fisherman with one arm and few words, whom the boy regards with wholehearted admiration. Determined to prove himself to this mentor, Alberto keeps trying to make a good impression, though doing so turns out to be harder than he expects, and his efforts bring him into conflict with the quiet, exacting rhythms of Massimo's working life.
The short was directed and written by McKenna Jean Harris and produced by Matt DeMartini for Pixar and Walt Disney Pictures, running just seven minutes. Jack Dylan Grazer voices Alberto, with Marco Barricelli as Massimo and Jacob Tremblay returning as Luca. It arrived in 2021 as an extension of the earlier feature, built around characters and a setting audiences already knew.
Audience response has been favorable. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.9 from roughly 9,200 votes, while on TMDB it scores 7.4 from about 714 votes. The gap is modest and the vote totals differ sharply: the larger IMDb sample reflects a broader, more casual viewership, whereas the smaller TMDB group rates the short somewhat more warmly.
