Short description
Arthur Fleck is now confined to Arkham State Hospital, awaiting trial for the crimes he committed as the Joker. Torn between the two sides of himself, he meets Lee Quinzel, a fellow inmate who becomes the love of his life, and discovers the music that has always lived inside him. The film follows his struggle with his divided identity as his day in court approaches.
Todd Phillips directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Scott Silver, continuing the story he began with Joker in 2019, the tenth film in his directing career by release order. Joaquin Phoenix returns as Arthur and also produced alongside Emma Tillinger Koskoff and Phillips. Lady Gaga plays Lee Quinzel, with Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Zazie Beetz and Steve Coogan among the supporting cast. Like its predecessor, the film is a Canada–United States production from Warner Bros. Pictures, Village Roadshow Pictures, Bron Studios and Joint Effort.
With a budget reported at 190 million US dollars, the film earned about 208 million dollars worldwide, a modest return against its cost. On IMDb it holds 5.2 out of 10 from roughly 180,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.4 out of 10 from about 3,000 votes. A critics' rating of 4.8 out of 10 from 371 reviews places professional reception below even the audience scores.

- According to director Todd Phillips, many musical fragments in the film served as dialogue. Through singing, Arthur Fleck says what he cannot describe with simple words.
- Folie à deux in the film's title is a medical diagnosis for 'induced delusional disorder.' This is a rare mental disorder in which a delusion is shared by two or more people with close emotional ties.
- According to Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga choked in surprise when she first heard his singing in the film.
