Albatross is a drama that explores the friendship between two young men with conflicting political views. After they together establish an independent news agency called Albatross, their lives take divergent paths. Amerigo becomes a war correspondent and dies in Mozambique in 1987 at age 34, recording his own death on camera. In contrast, his friend Vito achieves a successful career within the media industry. The story is loosely based on the life of the journalist Almerigo Grilz.
Directed and written by Giulio Base, this film is the fourth project in the director's career, following The Final Inquiry, Margherita delle stelle, and Judas' Gospel. The cast features Francesco Centorame in the role of Almerigo Grilz and Giancarlo Giannini as the fictional character Vito. Other cast members include Gianna Paola Scaffidi, Linda Pani, and Paolo Rozzi, with Giulio Base also appearing as a militant journalist. Produced by companies including RAI Cinema and One More Pictures, the Italian production has a runtime of 90 minutes.
