Cobweb

Set in 1970s Seoul, Cobweb centres on film director Kim, who has just finished shooting his latest feature. He becomes convinced that the picture would be a success if he replaced its ending, and he pushes for two extra days of shooting to realise his vision. The rewrite runs into state censorship, while actors and producers struggle to make sense of the new finale, leaving Kim to fight for his artistic ambition amid a chaotic production.

The film is directed by Kim Jee-woon, the tenth feature in a filmography that runs from The Quiet Family in 1998 through A Tale of Two Sisters, A Bittersweet Life, The Good, the Bad, the Weird, I Saw the Devil, Doomsday Book, The Last Stand, The Age of Shadows and Illang: The Wolf Brigade. Shin Yeon-shick wrote the screenplay, and the cast is led by Song Kang-ho as Director Kim, alongside Lim Soo-jung, Oh Jung-se, Jeon Yeo-bin, Krystal Jung and Park Jung-soo, among 43 credited performers.

Released in September 2023, the film runs 135 minutes and mixes comedy, drama and history. Film critics rated it 7 out of 10 across 36 reviews, while audiences were somewhat cooler, with 6.6 out of 10 on IMDb from around 2,900 votes and 6.5 out of 10 on TMDB from roughly 114 votes.
