Significant Other

Ruth and Harry set out on a backpacking trip through the Pacific Northwest, hoping for a romantic escape into the wilderness. Once among the trees, Ruth finds something in the landscape that unsettles her and pushes her onto a path she did not expect. The two are not alone out there, and the journey raises the question of whether they will return as the people they were.

Robert Olsen and Dan Berk directed the film and wrote the screenplay, the third feature in the directing pair's filmography after The Stakelander and Villains and before Novocaine. Maika Monroe and Jake Lacy lead the cast as Ruth and Harry, with Matthew Yang King, Dana Green, Loudon McCleery and Teal Sherer in supporting roles. Dan Kagan produced for Paramount Players and Quay Street Productions, and the film runs 85 minutes.

Released in October 2022, the film drew a mixed response from audiences, with an IMDb rating of 5.7 from around 19,000 votes and a TMDB rating of 6.1 from roughly 427 votes. A critics' score of 7 out of 10 from 31 reviews sits above those audience figures, indicating that reviewers responded more favorably than general viewers did.
