One Deadly Summer is a French crime drama from 1983, directed by Jean Becker and written by Sébastien Japrisot. It centres on Eliane Wieck, a young woman who arrives in a small village in the south of France. There she draws the attention of Fiorimonto Montecciari, known as Pin-Pon, a reserved mechanic who becomes infatuated with her. They begin a relationship, but Eliane has motives of her own that she keeps hidden. Her arrival unsettles the community, and her behaviour provokes friction with those around her, including Pin-Pon's relatives. Over the course of the story, her reasons for pursuing him come into focus: she is seeking to identify and punish the men responsible for an assault on her mother many years earlier. What she finds complicates the account she has carried with her.
Isabelle Adjani plays Eliane, with Alain Souchon as Pin-Pon. Suzanne Flon, Jenny Clève, Maria Machado and Evelyne Didi appear in supporting roles.
The film runs 133 minutes. It belongs to the early part of Becker's filmography; among the features listed for him, it is the earliest, preceding Love Me No More and My Afternoons with Margueritte. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.2 out of 10 from around 6,100 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 7 out of 10 from roughly 243 votes. A much smaller group of critics rated it 4.1 out of 10, well below both audience scores.
