Death to 2021

Death to 2021 is a comedy that looks back at the year 2021 through a mix of archive footage and scripted sketches. Its cast of fictional commentators and correspondents reacts to the events, large and small, that shaped those twelve months, ranging from the alarming to the occasionally uplifting.

Charlie Brooker wrote the screenplay with Akemnji Ndifornyen and Daniel Maier, and the film is directed by Josh Ruben and Jack Clough. For Ruben, it followed Scare Me and Werewolves Within, both from 2021, and came before Heart Eyes in 2025. The cast includes Hugh Grant as Tennyson Foss OBE, Joe Keery as Duke Goolies, William Jackson Harper as Zero Fournine, Lucy Liu as Snook Austin, Tracey Ullman as Madison Madison and Samson Kayo as Pyrex Flask. It was produced by Broke and Bones, Jesse Collins Entertainment and Irony Point, and runs for about an hour.

The film was released at the end of December 2021. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.3 from around 16,000 votes, while on TMDB it has a rating of 6 from roughly 312 votes. The two scores are close, indicating a broadly similar, moderate response from audiences on both platforms.
