Nefarious

Nefarious centers on Edward Wayne Brady, a convicted serial killer scheduled to die on the day the story takes place. A court-appointed psychiatrist, Dr. James Martin, arrives at the prison to assess whether Edward is mentally competent for execution, a routine evaluation with an unusual complication: Edward claims he is not a man at all but a demon named Nefarious. He also insists that before the day ends, the doctor himself will have killed three people. The psychiatrist must decide whether he is dealing with an elaborate deception or something outside his training.

The film was directed and written by Cary Solomon and Chuck Konzelman, the duo behind Unplanned, and was their second feature as directors. Sean Patrick Flanery plays Edward and the entity speaking through him, with Jordan Belfi as Dr. James Martin and Tom Ohmer as Warden Tom Moss. The cast of twenty-three also includes Glenn Beck, Daniel Martin Berkey and Mark De Alessandro.

Released in April 2023, the film was made for three million dollars and took in six million worldwide, a return several times its cost. On IMDb it holds 6.4 from about 39,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.7 from a much smaller body of around 542 votes. A critics' score of 4.7 from twenty reviews places it well below what general viewers gave it.
